Going GaGa!
Welcome back to all our families for Term 3. It has been a wonderful start to the semester, and it is always a pleasure to see students return refreshed and ready to learn. The first fortnight has already given us a great deal to celebrate. We have returned, however, Miss Greene and Sue are both on leave at the moment, enjoying some warmer weather. Sue is on leave for the whole term, Miss Greene will be back in Week 8.
Our Grade 5 students headed off to Sovereign Hill for camp and had a tremendous few days. Camps ask a great deal of students — being away from home, trying unfamiliar things and looking out for one another — so well done! A huge thank you to the teachers who gave up their time, and to the parent volunteers who came along. Camps simply cannot run without this generosity, and we are enormously grateful.
This fortnight we also built our very own GaGa Pit, and it has been an instant hit. A massive thank you to Parents and Friends Club for purchasing the Pit for our school. For families who have not come across it, GaGa ball is played inside a low octagonal pit. Players hit a soft ball with their hands and try to tag one another below the knee. If you are hit, you step out and wait for the next round to begin. Games are fast, and it works just as well for a Prep student as for a Grade 6.
We were also fortunate to host a visit from The Australian Ballet. The company performed for the whole school and ran workshops with our Grade 1/2 students. Opportunities like this bring the arts to life for our students.
Congratulations to Coltan, who competed at the National Scooter Championships, and to Jerome, who competed at State Cross Country. To have two Stawell Primary School students performing on some of the biggest stages in the country is remarkable. Well done to you both.
